TWO LAYERS, ONE LEDGER
Dual Layer QR + NFC
GS1 Digital Link QR by default for the DPP and public traceability, readable by any phone with no app to install. Optional premium NTAG424 DNA NFC for individual authenticity and proof of ownership.
Digital Certainty
Every certification event is anchored on a distributed ledger. The proof remains independently verifiable without relying on us.
One Protocol, Many Markets
Built for art, extensible to any asset whose provenance carries value.
ANATOMY OF PROOF
Two paths, not a queue. QR answers everyone, immediately. NFC answers the question QR cannot settle: is this the exact specimen.
QR Scan
Camera scan of the QR printed on the certificate or label. The GS1 resolver opens the public product page: traceability, digital passport and history, with no app to install.
NFC Approach
The phone is brought near the chip embedded in the certificate. No app required: the chip itself publishes an address the browser opens.
Unique Response
On every read the chip composes a different encrypted response, signed with a key unique to it and derived from its factory identifier. Two tags cannot produce the same one, and a response already seen never passes twice.
Server Verification
Our servers decrypt the response, verify the signature and reject any counter that has not advanced. A copy of a previous scan's response is refused.
Recording
The event is logged with its timestamp and scan country. Nothing more: no precise location, no device identifier. The audit trail becomes part of the piece's provenance.
Proof Delivered
The visitor receives the verdict and the piece's public information. Our infrastructure exposes only opaque identifiers: neither the owner's identity nor the chip number leaves our servers.
Unclonable Chip
Each chip carries a key unique to it, never transmitted and never reused from one tag to another. Copying its response is not enough: the counter expires it on the next scan.
Digital Twin Technology
Every physical piece has a digital counterpart that retains its provenance, ownership transfers and successive verifications.
NFC NTAG424 DNA
NXP secure chip with SUN messaging, anti-replay counter and certified 50-year data retention. ISO/IEC 14443 Type A compliant.
SECTORS
A protocol designed for art, built to expand. Each sector opens when its integration is ready, not before.
Fine Art
Gallery-grade certificates for paintings, sculptures and installations. Provenance tracking from studio to collector.
Luxury Goods
Authentication for high-end fashion, jewellery and accessories. Digital product passport and anti-counterfeiting.
Real Estate
Property title certification and ownership verification. Secure documentation for the most valuable assets.
Collectibles
Authentication for rare watches, sports memorabilia and vintage pieces. Preserve value through verified provenance.
Wine & Spirits
Bottle-level authentication for fine wines and rare spirits. Protection against fraud in the luxury beverage market.
Automotive
Service history and provenance for collector vehicles. A verifiable logbook attached to the vehicle.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED
[01]How do QR and NFC complement each other?
Every MakeSure piece is accompanied by a GS1 Digital Link QR code, systematic and at no extra cost, which opens its public page: traceability, digital product passport, history. For pieces whose specimen-level authenticity must be proven and ownership transferred, we optionally add an NTAG424 DNA NFC chip. The QR tells the public story; the NFC certifies the individual.
[02]Do I need an app to verify a piece?
No, in either case. The QR opens with any phone camera. The NFC chip itself publishes an address the browser opens when the phone approaches it. No install, no account: that is the condition for a buyer to verify a piece in a boutique or auction room.
[03]What prevents copying a chip?
Each NTAG424 DNA chip holds a key unique to it, derived from its factory identifier and never transmitted. On every read it composes a different encrypted response, accompanied by a counter that never goes backwards. Copying a scan's response is useless: it is refused on the next read. Reproducing the chip would require extracting a key the component does not disclose.
[04]What happens if someone detaches the chip from the certificate?
The link to the certificate is broken and the certificate loses its NFC authentication capability: the scan no longer responds. We are clear on the scope of the guarantee: the chip proves it is authentic and unique; it does not monitor the physical state of the substrate. It is the certificate itself, its paper and inks, that carry the signs of tampering, and the recorded provenance that allows it to be contested.
[05]How long does a certification remain valid?
NTAG424 DNA chips are rated for 50-year data retention, and the paper substrate meets the ISO 9706 archival standard. Once encoded, the chip is locked permanently: its configuration can no longer be changed by anyone, including us. The digital record of the piece does not depend on the component's lifetime.
[06]How does MakeSure certify a piece?
Depending on the format, the NFC chip is embedded between two layers of 600g laminated cotton paper for collection certificates, or carried in a label or hang tag for other uses. The GS1 Digital Link QR is printed on the same substrate. On scan, the signature produced by the chip is verified against the piece's record, linking the physical support to its digital history.
[07]Which standards does MakeSure follow?
Our NFC communications comply with ISO/IEC 14443 Type A and follow NXP application notes for key diversification and SUN authentication. QR marking follows the GS1 Digital Link standard, the approach retained for the European digital product passport. The paper substrate meets ISO 9706. Our architecture applies data minimisation: exposed identifiers are opaque and ownership data does not leave our servers.
[08]Can I certify real estate or luxury goods?
Not yet. Our opening covers art and collectible pieces. The protocol is designed as a universal ledger and those two sectors are on our roadmap, each with its own requirements: digital product passport compliance for luxury, integration with notarial systems for real estate. If your need concerns either, write to us: the next sectors open with their first users.
